Jennifer Ketterly

Jennifer Ketterly MS, RD, CSSD, LDN

Jen is a board certified sports dietitian, veteran practitioner, and consultant of the collegiate and professional sports nutrition, university health service, food and beverage industries. She is a founding principal of Performance 365, a sports nutrition consulting group working with athletes, team organizations, universities and aligned industry partners. She teaches sports nutrition at Benedictine University and regularly lectures on sports nutrition, foodservice operations, and clinical nutrition topics for a variety of classrooms and professionals.

Jen was the founding director of the sports nutrition departments at the University’s of Georgia and North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she established full time, integrated nutrition service lines into the sports medicine and athletic departments. In this role she provided nutrition support to a variety of teams and student-athletes, oversaw athletic food service operations, and developed benchmark staffing models as well as operating infrastructure. She began her career at the University of Connecticut coordinating nutrition and wellness services for campus and assisting with athletic care.

Jen received her undergraduate degree in nutritional sciences from Cornell University and her master's degree from the University of Kentucky with an emphasis in sports nutrition and wellness. A multisport athlete growing up, Jen played basketball while at Cornell and has coached women's basketball at the high school and AAU levels. Her kitchen has now become a fueling station for her daughter and she’s temporarily traded her golf swing for a baby swing!

Lindzi S. Torres, MS, MPH, RDN, CSSD, LD, ACSM-EP

Lindzi currently serves in the USAF on active duty at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, as the Operations Officer for the Special Warfare Human Performance Squadron. She also serves as the lead Performance Dietitian for the Special Warfare (Air Force Special Operations) training enterprise which supports 560 operators and support staff, 1.5K trainees, over 16 programs across 10 states. She is the military Chair for the DoD Performance Nutrition Working Group. Lindzi has experience in various areas of dietetics, to include health promotion, public health nutrition, clinical dietetics, disordered eating, and sports/performance nutrition. She managed the largest overseas USAF health and wellness center nutrition program and deployed for 6 months to Afghanistan in support of Operation: ENDURING FREEDOM as the sole dietitian for all US military and coalition forces in theatre.

Lindzi has been involved in various research projects, most notably in a grass-roots research project focusing on decreasing protein-calorie/energy malnutrition through plant based nutrition in rural Tanzania and a study investigating cardiovascular biometrics and their relationship to vitamin D status with the Houston Texans football team. She earned a BA is physical education with a minor in psychology and coaching at the College of Idaho, a MS in nutrition at the University of the Incarnate Word, a MPH in health promotion and behavioral sciences from the University of Texas Health Science Center, and completed her dietetic internship with the United States Military Dietetic Internship Consortium at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Chris Karpinski, PhD, RD, CSSD, LDN

Dr. Christine Karpinski is an exercise physiologist and registered dietitian and is currently an Associate Professor and Chair of the department of Nutrition at West Chester University. Chris earned her BS at West Chester University in exercise science and played field hockey and lacrosse. She earned her Master’s degree from Immaculata University and her PhD from Rutgers University with her doctoral research project involving the athletes at WCU. In addition to her teaching and Chair responsibilities, she provides nutrition education and services to the athletes at WCU and mentors undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in sports nutrition and is a preceptor for Dietetic Interns wishing to do a sports nutrition rotation. Chris served on the Executive Committee of SCAN as the Director of Sports Dietetics – USA (SD-USA) from June 2013-May 2016. She is a member of ACSM, PINES, and CPSDA. She has presented many times to many different groups on the topic of providing collegiate sports nutrition services on a budget, advocating for the critical need of sports dietitians in all college programs. She is the editor-in-chief for “Sports Nutrition: A Handbook for Professionals”, 6th edition, published in September 2017. Chris enjoys working out, hiking, playing golf, gardening, and watching almost any sport. She was the 2018 Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Dietetic Practice Group (SCAN) Achievement Award recipient.

Caroline A. Mandel, MS, RD, CSSD

Caroline Mandel is in her twentieth year as the Director of Performance Nutrition at the University of Michigan Athletic Department. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Caroline earned her undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Massachusetts where she was a Varsity swimmer. She completed dual Masters of Science degrees in Kinesiology and Public Health Nutrition from the University of Michigan. She is a Registered Dietitian and a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics. In addition to serving as the CPSDA Scholarship & Awards committee from 2012-2016, Caroline was elected in 2019 to the SCAN Executive Committee Board of Directors for a two-year term as Board Secretary. Before joining the Michigan Athletics Student Athlete Health and Welfare team, Caroline was a Nutrition Specialist in Preventive Cardiology, an outpatient clinic of the University of Michigan Health System. In addition to her work with the athletic department, she lectures on a variety of performance nutrition topics locally and nationally. Mandel was recognized for her achievements in sports and cardiovascular nutrition, becoming the Michigan Dietetic Association’s Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year for 1994 and Dietitian of the Year for 1999. She was the 2014 CPSDA Service Award recipient. Caroline and her husband Scott live in Ann Arbor with their daughters Hailey and Leah.

Cara Harbstreet

Cara Harbstreet, MS RD LD

Cara Harbstreet is a Kansas City based Registered Dietitian and nationally-recognized food and nutrition expert. She obtained a Bachelors of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition from Southeast Missouri State University. She went on to complete her Dietetic Internship and Masters of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition at The University of Kansas Medical Center. Upon completion, Cara worked in community nutrition, corporate wellness, retail settings. She later worked with the Endocrinology Department of a regional pediatric medical center and provided inpatient and outpatient support to children and families in the largest non-surgical specialty area. In 2016, Cara founded her private practice and began focusing on sports nutrition, intuitive eating, and applying the Health At Every Size model for clients in the Kansas City area. Since then, she has expanded into virtual and telehealth services and serves as a consultant and nutrition communications expert. Cara is also an active volunteer in the dietetics field, serving as a multi-year Board Member for the Kansas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in addition to her role with SCAN.

Geeta Sikand, MA, RDN, CDE, FNLA, CLS, FAND

Geeta Sikand is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Clinical Lipid Specialist, Certified Diabetes Educator, Fellow of the National Lipid Association and Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Ms Sikand is Director of Nutrition at University of California Irvine Preventive Cardiology Program and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine in Cardiology at the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine.

Ms. Sikand is recipient of the 2019 Medallion Award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 2019 Excellence in Cardiovascular Practice Award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Sports and Cardiovascular Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group, 2019 Outstanding Dietitian of the Year and Dolores Nyhus Memorial Award from the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy’s Asian Indians in Nutrition and Dietetics Member Interest Group and the 2013 Distinguished Service Award from the Dietitians’ in Health Care Communities Practice Group. For her research on the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy in dyslipidemia, she was the 2001 recipient of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics prestigious "Mary Huddleson Award” and the 1997 Excellence in Research Award from the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Ms. Sikand is a seminal author of the 2015 National Lipid Association Nutrition Recommendations for Dyslipidemia in “Recommendations for Patient Centered Management of Dyslipidemia.” Most recently she is the lead author of “Clinical and Cost Benefit of Medical Nutrition Therapy by Registered Dietitian Nutritionists for Management of Dyslipidemia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.” published in Journal of Clinical Lipidology in October 2018.

Linda J. Boyer-Samuels, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN

As a Consultant Sports Dietitian in Chicago, Linda works in multiple areas of sports dietetics. In private practice the past 12 years, Linda has specialized in nutrition/hydration for Ironman Triathletes. The past 5 years, she expanded her practice and now works with Professional Boxers. She was the sports dietitian for Andrzej Fonfara (retired) during his ascent up the WBC ranks from #22 to #2 in the World as a Light Heavyweight Boxer, and continues to work with fighters training with Sam Colonna and Virgil Hunter.

In the collegiate setting, Linda works in the Athletic Department at Northwestern University, consulting with student athletes.

In the sports science setting, Linda is a Consultant with GSSI (Gatorade Sports Science Institute), working on GSSI’s Sweat Test Team, where she tests/analyzes collegiate and professional sports teams across the nation. Also with GSSI, Linda works with athletes in the NBA’s G-League.

Mentoring has been an important part of Linda’s sports dietetics career and she has served in multiple positions with SCAN, including Project Manager for the Sports Fueling Project. As the new Director of Sports Dietetics – USA, Linda’s vision is to develop enhanced sport specific education for sports RDs at all levels of experience, which will be led by expert mentors.

Linda attended Purdue University and graduated with a BS in Dietetics from Andrews University. Her MS in Dietetics was completed at Mount Mary University.

Linda enjoys cycling and pilates, and aspires to keep up with her springer spaniel, Coco-Monster.

Mark S. Hoesten

Mark S. Hoesten, RD, LD, LDN

Mark in currently a wellness coach for Novant Health, Corporate Health and provides wellness coaching for a major government clients in North Carolina. Prior to becoming a wellness coach he specialized in preventive cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation assisting patients manage heart disease and its associated comorbid conditions, obesity, diabetes, and weight management. At Novant Health, Heart & vascular institute he established and lead the bariatric surgery dietary team. At The Ohio State University he established the dietary component of the preventive cardiology program, and started the first dietary clinics for heart failure patients. Mark earned his degree in Clinical Dietetics from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, School of Nutrition, in Dallas Texas.

Michelle Rockwell, MS, RDN, CSSD

Michelle is a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics with 20 years of experience in nutrition and dietetics. She has served as an instructor in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia since 2015. Michelle previously owned a private practice in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina where she consulted with athletes, teams, athletics programs, and industry clients throughout the U.S. She also worked with clients with disordered eating and eating disorders at all levels of care. Michelle and colleague Susan Kundrat MS, RDN, CSSD developed a preparation manual for the CSSD exam and taught a variety of related workshops nationally from 2008-2012. In summer 2019, Michelle completed a PhD in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise at Virginia Tech; her research involved a variety of studies examining vitamin D in health and human performance. She is currently pursuing research in vitamin D, omega-3 fats, and health services and preventive care. Michelle also earned MS and BS degrees from Virginia Tech where she was a Track & Field athlete. She completed her dietetics internship training at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland.

Jean Storlie

Jean Storlie, MS, RD

Jean has over 30 years of experience in nutrition/health communications, working in the wellness/fitness, weight management, and food industries. She worked for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Exercise Program, Cooper Aerobic Center, and Rush Medical Center. She’s also consulted with the Chicago White Sox, Gatorade, Weight Watchers, Ross Laboratories, and McNeil Specialty Products. Jean served 13 years at General Mills, where she created two flagship nutrition education programs for the Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition: Go With the Whole Grain and Destination! Heart Healthy Eating, which are used by over 30,000 health professionals. In 2012, Jean founded Storlietelling LLC, a consulting practice that helps business leaders drive health innovation by connecting the dots between the scientific and emotional sides of health. She presents workshops on storytelling for health and innovation to corporations, as well as local, state, and national professional meetings.

Gretchen Fivecoat

Gretchen A. Fivecoat, MS, RD, CSSD

Gretchen is a US Air Force dietitian currently serving as the Director of Operations at the 382d Training Squadron located at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Her assignments have included clinical dietetics, community, and health and wellness nutrition. She has led Nutritional Medicine Departments and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the theater dietitian for all US military and coalition forces. Additionally, she served as a technical school instructor where she built the consolidated Nutrition and Diet Therapy Program combining Air Force and Army technical training at the Department of Defense’s Medical Education and Training Campus at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She has also worked in force management and leadership development while working as a personnelist managing five medical career fields. She went on to serve as interim commander at leading nine hospital departments and supporting hospital budget. She is a member of the Air Force Performance Working Group and is the lead for the Air Force Dietitian’s Mentoring Program.

Gretchen attended the University of Florida where she earned her BS in Food Science and Human Nutrition and went on to complete her internship at Murray State University, KY. She obtained her MS at Central Michigan University. Her professional interests and experience include operational and aircrew nutrition, sports nutrition, and professional mentoring.
