  • Hi Ms. Peterson-

I’m currently an inpatient clinical RD, but my long-term goal has always been to become a sports dietitian. I have remained in the inpatient acute care setting for my first couple years to strengthen my understanding of biochemistry and build my general nutrition knowledgebase. I’m at a point now where I’m looking on to my next step, and am ready to head in the direction towards my ultimate goal. I’m considering getting my Master’s Degree (either in Sports Nutrition, Business, or Exercise Science), but wanted to first hear some of the paths taken by current sports RD’s. I’ve read that many positions are not full-time, and if you (or others) are essentially running a private practice, would it be more beneficial to get my Master’s in Business? From what you’ve experienced, is there a good chance that investing in a Master’s of Sport Nutrition would result in a job? Or might I have more opportunities if I seek out “Assistant to the Dietitian” or apprenticeship-type positions versus paying for another degree? I am very interested in learning how to apply my nutrition background to athletes of all kinds, and would really be willing to go any route; I just don’t know where to start.

When you get a chance, I'd love if you could share some insight.

Thanks in advance, and Happy New Year!

    Mary Balog, RD

  • How may I contact you by phone?

  • Wendy, where do I find the discount code for the 2012 SCAN event? All that comes up is the standard and student rate?  Not the $325.00 for members?  I am a member and keep emailing and calling and not getting any response.  Please help!  Hope you are doing well, t/c Katherine

  • Thank you for your help!  Tomorrow late afternoon would be perfect.  I'm available anytime after noon PST tomorrow so name any time.

    Thank you again,

  • Ms. Wendy Peterson,

I am a current dietetics students in a master's program, and would like to learn more information about the profession.  Would you be able to do a short interview over the phone sometime within the next week?  I'm currently in Indiana (3 hour time difference) but I came from California and will most likely go back when my master's is completed!  I'm very interested in hearing what it is like as a dietitian in California and how you decided your specific career.  Let me know if you would be able to answer a few questions over the phone and if so, what time is good for you.

    Thank you!
