  • Hi Ms. Gidus-

I’m currently an inpatient clinical RD, but my long-term goal has always been to become a sports dietitian. I have remained in the inpatient acute care setting for my first couple years to strengthen my understanding of biochemistry and build my general nutrition knowledgebase. I’m at a point now where I’m looking on to my next step, and am ready to head in the direction towards my ultimate goal. I’m considering getting my Master’s Degree (either in Sports Nutrition, Business, or Exercise Science), but wanted to first hear some of the paths taken by current sports RD’s. I’ve read that many positions are not full-time, and if you (or others) are essentially running a private practice, would it be more beneficial to get my Master’s in Business? From what you’ve experienced, is there a good chance that investing in a Master’s of Sport Nutrition would result in a job? Or might I have more opportunities if I seek out “Assistant to the Dietitian” or apprenticeship-type positions versus paying for another degree? I am very interested in learning how to apply my nutrition background to athletes of all kinds, and would really be willing to go any route; I just don’t know where to start.

When you get a chance, I'd love if you could share some insight.

Thanks in advance, and Happy New Year!

    Mary Balog, RD

  • Hi Tara,

My son in Orlando is in need of a RD specializing in intensive sports conditioning. Due to his personal training schedule for CrossFit and his own competition training, I get the job for the search! Is this your expertise  or could you recommend someone, please?

    Kind Regards,

    Kathy Koenig

  • Hey Tara,

I hope you are well and staying busy   :)

I had a call from someone who is looking to work with an RD to help him manage his lipids.  Let me know if you can work with him and I'll send his info.

If you don't have the time, do you have any recommendations?  He lives in Winter Garden.
