Session Abstract

Typically as dietitians when we think about retail (supermarkets) - we think about supermarket tours.  But there are a myriad of opportunities for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist beyond the grocery aisle. This  presentation will address some of the current shopper trends and myths and how registered dietitian nutritionists can successfully market their unique skill sets to retailers.
 

Learning Objectives

After attending this session, individuals will be able to:

  1. Attendee will be able to identify  current shopper trends and "bust" 3 supermarket myths.
  2. Attendee will be able to list 3 different services that a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist can market to a retailer.

Leah McGrath, RDN, LDN 

Leah McGrath has been the Corporate Dietitian for Ingles Supermarkets, a regional supermarket chain in the Southeast with over 200 stores in 6 states, for the past 16 years. She serves on the advisory panel for a grocery industry publication, Progressive Grocer, and is the most followed supermarket dietitian in the country on social media. She served as a dietitian and officer in the U.S Army and worked as a WIC and Nutrition Director in the Low Country Health District in South Carolina. Her undergraduate degree is in Human Nutrition from the University of Maryland and she has completed coursework towards a Master's in Marketing with Webster University. She is certified in Health Promotion through Cooper Clinic and has been a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics since 1995 and the North Carolina Dietetics Association since 2000.
