article you would like to share with other
students, Ellen would like to hear from
you. Once your idea is accepted, Ellen will
contact you and will mentor your writing
on your chosen nutrition topic or arrange
an interview with you regarding the experience
you would like to share. Ellen will work
with you and guide you. You must be a student
member of SCAN to participate. Be prepared
to submit your resume and a Web quality
photo, if available.

Ellen Coleman, RD, MA, MPH, is a registered
dietitian and exercise physiologist in Riverside,
California. She is a member of the American
College of Sports Medicine and is the nutrition
consultant for The Sport Clinic. Ellen has
consulted with the Los Angeles Lakers Basketball
team, Angels baseball team, and the Kings
Hockey team. She is the author of two books,
Eating for Endurance, 4th
ed. (2003) and Ultimate Sports Nutrition,
2nd ed. (co-author, 2000) by
Bull Publishing. She has also authored three
continuing education courses for health
professionals offered by Nutrition Dimension:
Diet, Exercise, and Fitness, 6th
ed. (2005), Cardiovascular Nutrition
and Fitness, 5th ed. (2004),
and Nutrition Quackery, 4th
ed. (2004). Ellen was the nutrition columnist
for Sports Medicine Digest for over
20 years and lectures extensively on the
dietary needs of athletes and active people.
She has earned a BS in Home Economics from
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, a MPH in Nutrition
from Loma Linda University, and a MA in
Physical Education from the University of
California at Davis. Ellen has completed
numerous marathons and 200-mile bicycle
races and is a two-time finisher of the
Hawaii Ironman triathlon. She received the
1994 SCAN achievement award and a 1995 California
Dietetic Association award for excellence
in private practice.
