of SD-USA - 2009
Sports Dietetics-USA (SD-USA) is a sub-unit
of SCAN that focuses on sports nutrition issues,
educating sports dietetics professionals, and
advancing sports dietetics as a career specialty.
Statement
of Purpose: Sports Dietetics-USA
is dedicated to promoting nutrition practices
that enhance lifelong health, fitness, and sports
performance; and advancing the vocation of sports
dietetics. Sports Dietetics-USA members are
the source of sports nutrition information and
services, empowering individuals to achieve
optimal health and performance.

Goals
- Apply the science of sports nutrition to fuel fitness and performance
- Provide guidance in safe and effective sports nutrition practices
- Provide opportunities for education and professional growth of members
(workshops, presentations, e-learning)
- Provide technical assistance to the Commission on Dietetic
Registration (CDR) for the Board Certification as a Specialist
in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) credential. A Sports Dietetics Specialty Examination Workgroup (SSEW), composed of SCAN members, participates in the following:

- Develop items for the CSSD specialty examination
- Recommend sports nutrition references for CDR's sports nutrition

- Recommend sports dietitians to serve on the SSEW
- Assist CDR in promoting the CSSD credential
