| SCAN Distinguished Scholar Award
Established in 2007, this award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to research or the practice of dietetics as a result of continued commitment to scholarship.
SCAN
Excellence in Practice Award
Established in 1996, this award recognizes
the outstanding practice of SCAN members in one of the four
SCAN practice areas: cardiovascular
dietetics, wellness/health promotion, the prevention and treatment of disordered
eating or sports dietetics. Members may receive the award for efforts as individuals, as part of a group, or as part of an organization. Areas of practice may include: clinical practice, public health practice,
consulting/corporate health practice, program
development, research, publication, education
or volunteer practice.

Each year a Selection Committee made up of
the SCAN Chair, the Chair-elect, and two members
at-large review completed applications of individuals
nominated for this award. The criteria and respective
weight for each of the criteria for award selection
are as follows:
- Outstanding service to SCAN on a national,
regional, and local levels, as well as roles
in mentoring SCAN members. (55%)
- Professional accomplishments in the field
of sports or cardiovascular nutrition, wellness
and/or disordered eating as exemplified by
education/training, clinical experience, public
speaking, research, publications and teaching.
(15%)
- Participation in ADA activities at the national,
state, and local levels. (10%)
- Outstanding community outreach and service.
(10%)
- A personal statement, of not more than 300
words, explaining "What in your opinion,
qualifies your for this award?" (10%)
- Member of SCAN for at least 3 years.
- Current SCAN Executive Committee members
are ineligible.
