Hello my name is Erin Lanza, I am a student at California Baptist University and I intern at UCR with their Wellness Programm. I will be graduating in the spring with a BS in Kinesiology and I am looking at recieving my Masters in Dieteics. I cycle 6-10 hours a week and I very interested in learning about the proper nutrition I need to have the best performance; with ideal body weight and body fat. I was wondering where your practice is? What is your consultation fee? What does your consultation include? Do you accept insurance? I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi, Erin,

Thank you for your question.  And congratulations on the cycling.  I did long distance cycling from       1995-2006.  Currently I am the dietitian for the Eating Disorders treatment program at Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine center.  I do see a few out patients through Loma Linda University Medical Center, Nutritional Services Dept.  I don't have a private practice; my work sites are at the BMC in Redlands, and LLUMC in Loma Linda.

When I see someone outpatient they need a referral from an MD, and if your insurance covers the type of consultation, getting the authorization is needed.    Loma Linda bills for dietitian services in 15 min increments, and an hour visit is approximately $220.  This is not a private practice fee, and I wish it were not this high, but the majority of people we see have insurance coverage for a specfic diagnosis.

At a first visit Ido a basic assessment and find out what the person is interested in doing, and what their meal pattern and intake is like.  We discuss specific meal plans/menus and other recommendations for their particular needs.  In the area of sports nutrition I highly recommend "Endurance Sports Nutrition" by Suzanne Girard Eberle, MS, RD.  I currently do sports nutrition with some of the eating disorder patients and on a volunteer basis with San Bernardino County Search & Rescue teams.

Here is my direct email if you have more questions.  bdickinson@llu.edu
